California Gun Safety Course | Firearms Safety Certificate (FSC) Test
Starting January 1, 2015, California state law mandates that firearm buyers (unless exempt) must obtain a Firearms Safety Certificate (FSC) before a firearm can be transferred. If you have a valid Handgun Safety Certificate (HSC), you can continue using it for handgun purchases until its expiration.
To get the FSC, you’ll need to pass a 30-question written test on firearm safety and California firearm laws. The test is available in our store, and upon passing, you will receive your FSC, which is valid for 5 years at a cost of $25.
To help you prepare, the California Department of Justice (DOJ) has published a study guide, available for download in English or Spanish below. Please note that the DOJ no longer provides printed copies of the guide.
$25.00 Firearm Safety Certification (Valid for 5 Years)
You can take the DOJ’s firearm safety test in our store during business hours. Once you pass the test, your certificate will be issued. Please be aware that the State of California still enforces a mandatory 10-day waiting period for firearm purchases.
